19 March 2011

For the third time in 10 years, the US has taken on the role of aggressor in the Middle East.

I wrote in an earlier blog post that we should not pick and choose which people to express solidarity for. If we support the people of Egypt for wanting to remove a dictator, we should, likewise, support the people of Libya. We still should. However, in the days since I wrote that entry, the situation has changed.

The Imperialists (the US, Britain, and France) have physically intervened. The United States and France have taken violent military action against Libyan forces loyal to Qaddafi. They have established "no fly zones". They have taken the side of the anti-Qaddafi rebels, and have basically told Qaddafi that he is not allowed to put down this rebellion.

This brings us to the most interesting point. When this situation first arose, the Western media and politicians led the world to believe that a massive popular uprising was quickly forcing Qaddafi into a smaller and smaller area of influence. The news showed happy Libyans rejoicing in being freed from Tripoli. One channel in particular ran a story about volunteers directing traffic since the official traffic officers were not around (Where did they go? Why were public workers mysteriously absent from the towns taken by the rebels? I suspect that most of them, being loyal to Qaddafi, either fled, or were killed - in which case their deaths will be, most likely, blamed on Qaddafi).

The truth has come to light. Clearly this rebellion does not, and did not, have the massive popular support that we were led to believe. Otherwise, the US would not have had to so blatantly intervene. The Obama regime has made various statements about the evils of Qaddafi (Clinton even saying that he WOULD commit atrocities if left alone), and has -in true Bush fashion- claimed that we are trying to help the people of Libya. This entire situation is beginning to seem like Bush redux. The propaganda and lies are flying fast and furious, and the only people that will truly suffer are the people of Libya (who will, as the innocent victims of Imperialism always do, bear the brunt of the death and destruction the US causes).

The Obama regime has changed its populist slogan "Yes we can!" to the dictatorial "Yes you will!", and we have been caught in the trap again. There is no doubt that Qaddafi and his loyalists will put up a fight and, should that happen, we will be involved in a third war -that will undoubtedly turn into another unending quagmire.

The Proletariat of the world must now surely see that the US has no interest in peace and freedom. We have been lied to time and time again, and our Imperialist masters have used us over and over again. Protesters acting again anti-Labour governors in the US are dragged away, and yet the federal government sees fit to "protect" the "people" in other countries. This, of course, is well in keeping with an Imperialist government that crushes dissent at home, and seeks the most pliable governments abroad to deal with - even if they must create those governments themselves. Qaddafi would never give the US what it wants, the rebels might. So, the United States aids the rebels.

The United States, the new spearhead of Imperialism, speaks the words of kindly, benevolent, protectors of the people. They are not. Every military action that the US has been involved in since WWII has been as the aggressor. Every foreign policy decision has been made to enrich the few, rather than to benefit the many. The US (which is really just a modified form of a feudal monarchy) complains about the deficit, yet continues to spend millions in Iraq and Afghanistan, and has now instigated a third military money vacuum.

I would ask the world: Who is the real enemy? Which government is the real rogue government? Which regime should be defeated?
