American troops massacre 25 villagers near al-Latifiyah
Saturday night, Muslim Scholars of Iraq declares.
US troops accompanied by puppet "Iraqi National Guards"
massacred more than 25 Iraqi villagers in the area near al-Latifiyah, about 30km
south of Baghdad in operations they carried out late on Saturday night and early
Sunday morning.
The Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq, the highest
Sunni religious authority in the occupied country, issued a statement on Monday
denouncing the savage American assault.
The statement recounted how American helicopters began an
air assault on the homes of residents of the Shakhat Wahid area near al-Latifiyah
at 10pm local time Saturday night (13 May 2006). The attack was so ferocious
that the villagers fled their homes to take refuge in the fields and furrows
nearby. Then about seven helicopters then appeared and landed, disgorging US
soldiers who chased down the villagers who had fled from the hellish rocket fire
targeted on their homes.
The Association statement said that "as soon as they caught
anyone, they killed him, until the number of victims totaled more than 25
martyrs. They then arrested six more villagers, among them two women – Isra’
Mahmud Hasan and Widad Ahmad Hasan – as well as a little girl, named Huda
Haytham Muhammad Hasan, whose father was killed by the rocket attack."
"These forces did not put an end to their crimes at that
point," the statement continued, "but at 4am this morning resumed their savage
campaign against the same area, backed up by government "Guards" once again,
raiding the local people’s houses and arresting a number of them and driving out
the others, after which they turned the homes into sniper outposts."
The Association of Muslim Scholars denounced this latest
American crime and noted that it clearly indicated the moral defeat that the US
troops had suffered as they now go through the last period before their final
departure from Iraq.
