I'm appealing to organizations in and around New York City to please protest this dinner sponsored by "Friends of the IDF" to raise money for and honor war criminals who are carrying out unspeakable crimes against the Palestinian people in the name of "defense" which will not be shown on special live hook-up. War criminals should be arrested, not saluted. A protest, a candlelight vigil, a memorial gathering to all those who have been killed or died because they were refused medical treatment should be held outside the Waldorf Astoria on March 18. As the orchestra plays, more people will die....

I'm appealing to organizations in and around New York City to please protest this dinner sponsored by "Friends of the IDF" to raise money for and honor war criminals who are carrying out unspeakable crimes against the Palestinian people in the name of "defense" which will not be shown on special live hook-up. War criminals should be arrested, not saluted. A protest, a candlelight vigil, a memorial gathering to all those who have been killed or died because they were refused medical treatment should be held outside the Waldorf Astoria on March 18. As the orchestra plays, more people will die. Marlene  | | | The New York Annual Gala Dinner will be held on Tuesday, March 18th at the historic Waldorf=Astoria. More than 1,200 people will gather together to support Israel’s soldiers and the State of Israel. This year we celebrate Israel’s 60th anniversary and the IDF soldiers who have protected the state since its founding. Israel’s Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will address the audience with opening remarks via live satellite. Our keynote speaker this year is Israel’s Minister of Defense Ehud Barak who will give a special briefing of the latest developments in Israel. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet with soldiers and dignitaries from Israel and Washington DC who will be joining us for the evening. A special live satellite hook-up will link the Waldorf in New York with IDF personnel manning the front lines in Israel. Honoring us with their presence this year are 30 brave soldiers, who, despite having suffered the unspeakable loss of a loved one serving in the IDF, still choose to serve their homeland as combat soldiers in the IDF. 2008 marks the 10th year the gala is chaired by Mr. Benny Shabtai, President of Raymond Weil. In accordance with tradition, the IDF Orchestra will join us once again at the Waldorf, infusing the evening with the sound and spirit of Israel. The New York Dinner is the largest single fundraising event for the FIDF organization. The funds raised at this dinner will provide much-needed and deserved services such as financial support to needy and lone soldiers, educational scholarships to released combat soldiers, weeks of rest and recreation for entire IDF units, cultural, educational and sports facilities, and support for widows and children of fallen soldiers. All of these programs and projects reinforce the message of love, support, and appreciation our wonderful donors and friends have for the soldiers.
