Serving the Imperialists' Interests in Mali

By Harun Elbinawi

January 26, 2013

Mali is a landlocked country in West Africa. Mali is bordered by Algeria on the north, Niger on the east, Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire on the south, Guinea on the south-west, and Senegal and Mauritania on the west. Its size is just over 1,240,000 square kilometres (480,000 sq mi) with a population of 14.5 million. Its capital is Bamako.

The present conflict started when in January 2012 a Tuareg rebellion began in Northern Mali, led by the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad. In March, military officer Amadou Sanogo seized power in a coup d'état, citing Touré's failures in quelling the rebellion, and leading to sanctions and an embargo by the Economic Community of West African States. The MNLA quickly took control of the north, declaring independence as Azawad. However, Islamist groups including Ansar Dine and Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), who had helped the MNLA defeat the government, turned on the Taureg and took control of the North with the goal of implementing Sharia Law in Mali. On 11 January 2013, the French Armed Forces intervened at the request of Sanogo's government.

We opposed this ill-timed decision of the imperialist intervention in Mali that has no UN mandate. We are opposed to all Western imperialist interventions in other countries as these had never yielded any positive results. The world had not forgotten such intervention in Iraq using the false claim of Weapon of Mass Destruction that were never found, when the dust settle close to half-a-million Iraqis death, more than that injured and displaced and their country destroyed and raped. Libya is another example where the Western hegemonic powers bombed Libya to stone-age thus totally destroying it great infrastructures that rivalled those of developed countries.

The world is conscious of the server economic crises facing European countries caused by excessive capitalist greed and economic exploitation by few, these greedy European powers need foreign outlets where they can loot the resources of those nations to continue where they left during colonization. The hand writing is very clear on the wall that this is the French hidden intentions in Mali, an unstable country rich in Gold, Diamond and Uranium.

The first batch of Nigerian troops left Kaduna for Mali on the 17th January, 2013 to partake in the imperialist aggression on that country. The President claimed they are fighting terrorism and all that nonsense but we all know that it is part of the hegemonic design to re-colonize Africa. Unfortunately some African leaders who are lackeys of global imperialism are going to be part of this aggression and Africans will be killing Africans and destroying an African country.

Nigeria is already gripping with the Boko Haram crises and there are strong allegations against this government of its security agency's committing lots of excesses in handling the situation. Muslim youths are arrested on the allegation of been Boko Haram members and some are brutalized and tortured to death without any concrete proof to that allegation. The Nigerian President had failed woefully in addressing the security situation of this country but the same man is sending close to 1,000 men to be under the command of a former colonial power.

What is more reckless than sending a force to Mali under a Western-led intervention that is perceived here to be hostile to Islam? In a Muslim-majority nation like Nigeria this is not the proper thing to do at this moment. When huge refuges stars flowing and pictures of dead Muslims starts coming out and news of Muslim women been raped by that immoral Army, what do you think the reaction will be here? Is the decision of the Nigerian President not going to fuel the already blazing flam at home?

The Malian situation is completely different from what happened in Liberia and Serra Leon where it was a regional force that brought peace and stability to those nations. Africa should by now come of age where conflicts can be resolve under the AU mandate or Regional mandates like ECOWAS. Involving the hegemonic powers whose antecedents of profiteering and looting of indigenous resources are legendary is a great set-back to the continent.

Nigerian troops are going to be serving imperialism in Mali, no doubt about that and the troops are going to be under the French Army command structure that is already stationed in that country. From all indication the Nigerian President wants to be in the good books of the Western hegemonic powers in his bid to perpetuate himself in power. He is presently running the most corrupt government in this nation's history and even Obasanjo who is his political god-father had to point to this reality.

The Malian crisis would have been better solved through negotiations under regional or continental cooperation between nations. The Malian crisis is a political crisis that requires a political solution with all parties involved in the crises. Unfortunately the vampire nations of Europe and the West are averse to this and another bloody conflict has been initiated by them where innocent people are going to be murdered, women raped, houses and means of livelihood destroyed and values humiliated through the Western pervasive sexual tendencies of raping children.
